Using the Online Library Catalog

Now take your keywords and find a book in the Library Online Catalog. 

The following searches will help you find issues in the library catalog.

Searching for any of the above phrases will help you find ideas for your issue and will also lead you to library materials on that issue.


To find material for a specific issue, you can combine any of the above phrases with keywords for your issue.  For example, the keyword search

"opposing viewpoints" feminism

will return items in the library about controversial aspects of feminism.


More eBooks

Over fifty eBooks are available on contemporary issues. They are accessible through the library's online catalog and on the library's web page under "Subject Guide to Online Databases and eBooks" in the "Contemporary Issues" tab.

Substantive Research

Once you have your topic, you can begin researching substantive material to use in your argument. 

If you used a database such as Opposing Viewpoints or SIRS Researcher, remember that you can branch directly from the viewpoint article for your topic into materials such as articles, news, and statistics. 

If you are looking for additional resources, a good place to start is to use the page that has the databases organized by subject

Once in your chosen database, search by keywords using the simple search field.
